IN BRIEF
Most loyalty programmes reward a transaction after it happens. A customer spends, a customer earns, and nothing about their behaviour actually changes tomorrow. That is the gap between an earn and burn points ledger and a behavioural loyalty platform.
Gamification is often reduced to adding a spinning wheel. In a regulated BFSI environment, it is narrower and more deliberate: applying a specific game mechanic to a specific customer behaviour, with a psychological driver and a measurable business outcome attached to it. A single mechanic, such as cashback, works for one job: removing price sensitivity at the moment of sale. It does nothing for onboarding drop off, dormant user reactivation, or status driven retention.
Inside the Perx platform, gamification mechanics live in the Behaviour Engine, are governed by the Precision Engine’s rules layer, and get deployed through the Campaign Engine. Each mechanic is mapped to a named psychological driver and a proof point from a live BFSI deployment, not a vague engagement label.
12 mechanics across three layers of four each: Tactical, Operational, and Strategic. All 12 sit inside the Behaviour Engine, not as standalone widgets, and every mechanic exists to engineer one of three outcomes: an immediate transaction, a completed high friction task, or a long term habit that makes switching to a competitor feel like a loss. Points Engine and referral driven acquisition mechanics are covered under separate platform modules and are outside the scope of this mechanics library.

IN BRIEF
| Mechanic | Layer | Psychological Driver | What It Solves | How Perx Enables It |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cashback | Tactical | Instant Gratification, Pleasure Principle | Removes price sensitivity at the point of sale | Delivered through the Rewards Engine with real time transaction triggers |
| Digital Stamp Cards | Tactical | Endowed Progress Effect, Sunk Cost | Converts one transaction into a committed multi visit mission | Built on the Behaviour Engine's collection journey templates |
| Spin the Wheel | Tactical | Variable Reward Schedule, Anticipation | Gives customers a daily reason to open the app | Deployed via the Behaviour Engine's variable reward templates |
| Instant Win: Plinko, Bubble Pop, Hit the Pinata | Tactical | Reward Dopamine Loop, Surprise and Delight Bias | Breaks through app noise and re-engages dormant users at very low cost | Deployed via the Campaign Engine as chance and skill based formats |
| Quests | Operational | Epic Meaning, Narrative Drive | Guides customers through onboarding and cross sell without a push notification | Configured in the Campaign Orchestrator as a multi step mission |
| Progress Bars | Operational | Zeigarnik Effect, Visual Goal Tension | Makes incomplete KYC and onboarding steps feel urgent to finish | Rendered through the Customer Facing Interface, no developer required |
| Quizzes | Operational | Competence Mastery, Self Efficacy | Builds product confidence and lifts conversion on complex products | Delivered via the Behaviour Engine's operational mechanics library |
| Surveys | Operational | Ownership Bias, Self Expression | Collects zero party data without form friction | Feeds the Insights Engine's Next Best Offer modelling |
| Daily Streaks | Strategic | Loss Aversion, Daily Habit Loop | Converts app use from a monthly utility into a daily ritual | Tracked through the Behaviour Engine's habit mechanics |
| Leaderboards | Strategic | Social Comparison, Competitive Instinct | Drives spend to protect or improve rank at zero marginal reward cost | Displayed via the Customer Facing Interface and Insights Engine |
| Status Badges | Strategic | Elite Identity Formation | Turns status into an identity that makes switching feel like a loss | Issued and tracked through the Behaviour Engine's achievement system |
| Raffles and Lucky Draw | Strategic | Scarcity, Anticipation, Loss Aversion | Drives mass participation at a controlled and fully auditable reward cost | Governed by the Precision Engine's budget guardrails and compliance rules |
Every one of the 12 gamification mechanics is governed by the same Precision Engine rules layer, so a Spin the Wheel campaign, a Quest, and a Raffle all trace back to the same transaction logic and the same reporting layer. On the Perx platform, that single rules layer already governs 6+ platform modules, including Engagement, Behaviour, Campaign, Merchant, and Insights, in sync. That means a CMO gets the engagement lift, and a CFO gets the number it moved: 9.3 interaction events per user per month, a 72 percent returning customer rate, up to 12x uplift in high margin product adoption, and reward cost as a percentage of transaction value, not engagement for its own sake.
Gamification, in isolation, is a UX layer. Built as platform infrastructure, with one rules engine, one behaviour library, and one P&L view, it becomes a growth system. The mechanic is never the point. The behaviour it produces, and the revenue that behaviour generates, is.
